School Overview

FRA is a coeducational independent school in Nashville offering pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students a challenging educational experience within an inclusive Christian community.

Summary

Fulltime ten (12) month position that is responsible for performing skilled maintenance services, general repairs, alteration and building constructions tasks related to the campus buildings and equipment within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures. Areas of work can include but limited to painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical. In addition, the position assists with a variety of requests to support campus projects, programs and events for the FRA students, parents, faculty and staff. Position requires working both independently and cooperatively as a team.

Essential Functions

The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose and perform general, semi-skilled maintenance on buildings and grounds, operating electrical tools and motorized vehicles and provide necessary repairs
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery, plumbing, physical structure, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, and electrical wiring and fixtures of school buildings that do not require a certified electrician/plumber in accordance with blue-prints, manuals, building codes, and safety regulations, using hand tools and carpenter's, electrician's and plumber's tools
  • Maintain heating and air conditioning equipment; operate, monitor and adjust energy management system as needed; make minor adjustments and repairs to hot water systems and console heaters; wipe/flush joints; clear drains/sewers of obstructions
  • Performs a variety of plumbing repairs/maintenance, including but not limited to, restroom commode and sink fixtures, drinking fountains, snaking drain lines and rerouting of plumbing
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and other plumbing equipment, and opens clogged drains, using appropriate tools
  • Install and make emergency repairs to various kinds of fixtures and equipment
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance of roofs, motors, exit/emergency lights, basketball hoops, generators, batteries, smoke detectors and service vehicle
  • Performs new installation and repairs of various floor coverings, including but not limited to, VCT, carpet tiles and cove base
  • Inspects machinery and mechanical equipment for defects
  • Paints walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures, using appropriate materials and tools
  • Replaces and repairs brick and plaster walls, using appropriate materials and tools
  • Constructs and repairs partitions using metal and wood framing material and other wooden structures, using saws, braces, bits, and appropriate materials and tools
  • Arranges furnishings and equipment (including playground and lunchroom equipment) for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom/playground activities, meals, and events
  • Report maintenance needs to Maintenance Supervisor
  • Provide after school hours assistance for work support or in the event of an emergency/inclement weather conditions (remove snow, ice and/or storm damage)
  • Provide security, traffic control and clean up for sports events
  • Assist with garbage removal
  • Direct incoming/outgoing traffic during school hours when students arrive/leave campus
  • Assist with campus lockdown as needed
  • Assist the Facilities Director in managing the overall look and safety of the campus.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area
  • Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures at all times
  • Follows local, state, and OSHA regulations
  • Uses and wears safety and/or protective equipment, as appropriate
  • Adheres to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of equipment and supplies
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Qualifications

Education/Experience
High School diploma; 3 years’ work-related experience in

Skills, Abilities, and Attributes

  • Operate variety of power tools/equipment such as pressure washer and scissor-lift
  • Safely use hazardous and toxic chemicals
  • Geothermal experience a plus
  • Provide basic hand tools

Physical Requirements
